WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will open sales on June 13, 2011, at noon Eastern Time for 100-coin bags and two-roll sets containing the new quarter honoring Olympic National Park. The bags are priced at $49.95 each and the two-roll sets at $39.95 each.
The coins in the bags and rolls were struck on the main production floors of the United States Mint facilities at Denver and Philadelphia for use in general circulation but have never been released into circulation. The two-roll sets (40 coins per roll) include one roll each bearing the "P" and "D" mint marks. The special numismatic packaging displays the name "Olympic National Park," the abbreviation "WA" for Washington, "$10," the value of its contents, and "P" or "D" for the mint of origin. Each canvas bag has a tag with "Olympic National Park," "WA" and "P" or "D."
The United States Mint will accept orders at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers may order at 1-888-321 MINT (6468). A fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders to cover shipping and handling costs.
The Olympic National Park quarter is the eighth coin issued in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and national sites in each state, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories. The reverse (tails side) design depicts a Roosevelt elk standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River, with a view of Mount Olympus in the background. Inscriptions are OLYMPIC, WASHINGTON, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. It was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso.
The United States Mint, created by Congress in 1792, is the Nation's sole manufacturer of legal tender coinage and is responsible for producing circulating coinage for the Nation to conduct its trade and commerce. The United States Mint also produces proof, uncirculated and commemorative coins; Congressional Gold Medals; and silver, gold and platinum bullion coins.
